Photosynth is Amazing

I have to admit… this has so much potential.

If you missed the original demo from TED, stop what you’re doing and check it out. In only a few minutes Blaise Aguera y Arcas demos the software and explains it’s potential impact on digital photography and content on the web.

Microsoft picked it up in 2006 and has since released software to allow you to create you own 3D Photosynths. Unfortunately (of course) it’s Windows only both to create and view synths. That said, I was able to run it in VMWare Fusion on my iMac without issue and in about an hour had created the synth below from some photos from our trip to Florence.

Really cool stuff, especially if they eventually allow you to combine multiple users’ synths.
