iPhone App Wishlist [Updated]

A list of requested apps for the iPhone.

Skype
checkFring to the rescue.
Yea, IM+ is ok but it just doesn’t feel right to me. How about a nice native Skype client to call Skype users and real numbers using VoIP?

Slingplayer
pending – still waiting on this one
As you may know we use a SlingBox to watch US TV here in the UK. I don’t really need to watch TV on my phone but every now in then it would be great to set something up to record while out and about. An app has been rumored for awhile but so far it’s vaporware.

SlingRemote
checkSnatch Remote
More important to me would be a remote app for our SlingBox a la the AppleRemote app for iTunes. This might not be useful to most but my Sling setup is our only source of TV. I can control everything just fine from the app itself but having a keyboard and mouse on the coffee table isn’t really ideal. I suspect there’s a clever way of doing this whereby your iPhone communicates the remote commands to my Mac and then the Slingplayer software itself sends those to the SlingBox. This avoids trying to communicate with the SlingBox directly which isn’t necessary for my purposes.

Backpack (a la Packrat)
checkFrontPocket, although I’m reserving judgement on this one until I can try it out.
I dig Backpack and it’s ok in Safari on the iPhone but not stellar. Plus I’d love to have pages synced locally for times when I’m on a plane, abroad, or the data is just running slow. A native app would take it to the next level.

Can you define ‘vaporware’ for those of us who aren’t familiar..?

Answers.com’s definition is a good one:

“New software that has been announced or marketed but has not been produced.”

Backpack app is coming. It’s going to be called “BackPocket” and it will give you full access to every feature and live completely on your iPhone. Email me with any questions.

FYI, FrontPocket (formerly BackPocket) is now in the App Store. http://frontpocketapp.com

Thanks Scott. I saw that on twitted last night. I took a quick look and while it is probably something I would get value out of I’m hesitant to pay $10 without a test run first, or at least waiting for more of the reviews to come in. I’m not reluctant to spend money on apps I’d get a lot of use out of, but it’s difficult for me to gauge the limitations of your app (and 37signals api) without testing it out first.
