[Launch] macForecast.com - Predict which Apple rumors will come true and which one’s won’t

I’ve been wanting to develop a Rails app for a while now. Backpack and Highrise are invaluable to me, and I find the general Agile and Getting Real philosophies quite agreeable in day to day life as well as programming.

At any rate I’ve been wanting to learn so my brother picked me up a copy of Agile Web Development with Rails for Christmas. I’m happy to say a mere 2 weeks later and I’m up and running with my first app, macForecast.com!

It’s not going to win any design awards at this point. It’s not deployed gracefully with subversion and Capistrano (yet!). And the code’s not completely separated in the MVC paradigm.

Nonetheless, it works (fingers crossed!)… and I think it’s a fun concept: Forecast which Apple rumors you think are going to come true correctly and your accuracy / clairvoyance ratings go up. Forecast incorrectly and your rating will go down. There’s a lot of stats and other fancy things that can be added for later but for now it’s pretty simple.

Anyway, I hope this is the start of actually learning a language in depth over the coming years. Only time will tell. :)
